Nursing Philosophy

Wellness can be many things. For every individual it can fluctuate throughout life, from being an opinion or state of mind, to scientific numbers or diagnosis. Being well is coupled on a continuum with being ill. And illness, similar to wellness, is made up of many different beliefs and complicated factors. Within a lifetime, humans must deal with both states of health and there to care for them, are nurses.

Nursing is the act of doing all that is required, all that is helpful, and all that heals, for a person physically, mentally, and emotionally with respect for the individual and family.

Through experience, I have come to realize that a nurse can never explain procedures and care to a family enough. They can never over educate a patient on medication, safety, and illness prevention. They are the link between family and provider, adequate knowledge and ignorance, human compassion and impersonal care. I believe through habitual vigilance, empathy, and critical thinking, that I can help them uncover what is needed for continuous movement toward wellness.

It is through my own volunteer and work experiences, that I have found a passion for health and teaching. These two concepts, being both a teacher and a learner, are the cornerstone to my own continuous personal growth and serve as a guide for my nursing practice. I plan to utilize my passion for science and knowledge of health, and my communication skills to devote undivided attention to each patient while teaching. This will achieve the goal of insuring that they leave feeling more confident, capable of achieving their own best health, and feeling heard and understood as a person.

If humans want for one thing in this world, it is to be understood. Nurses are prepared to listen.
